Walpole Bay Tidal Pool situated at Walpole Bay Margate was built and opened in 1937 and now Grade II listed
Underneath the chalk-white cliffs, Walpole Bay Tidal Pool covers four acres (450ft long, 300ft wide at the sea end and 550ft wide at the land end). The pool disappears at high tide and reappears when the tide is low. Walk the seaweed-covered footpaths around the pool and dive in the cold water – it doesn't get more refreshing than this. It is believed to be the biggest tidal pool in the UK, reaching depths of 6ft in places.
In recent years it has become a popular destination for sea swimming with fresh water springs rising from the beach within the walls.
At all tides the pool is submerged by the sea so please check the tide before attending as it can get rough at high tide.
Close by you will find the the Walpole Bay Hotel, mini golf, tennis court, cafe and indoor bowls
Please be aware there are no toilet facilities or lifeguards patrolling the beach and tidal pool
