Collecting and exhibiting contemporary art for nearly 100 years, Towner is in Eastbourne, where the south coast and the rolling South Downs meet.

Towner presents exhibitions of national and international importance, showcasing the most exciting and creative developments in modern and contemporary art.

In addition to inspiring and thought-provoking exhibitions, Towner develops and supports collaborative artistic practice to deliver a public programme of live events, film and learning. Towner also opened an 84-seat cinema in 2018 and screens a regular programme of films including new releases, documentaries, classics, family film and more.

The award-winning gallery, which opened the doors to its current building in April 2009, is the largest of its kind in the South East – with 1,250m of display space – and boasts the internationally renowned Towner Collection of over 5000 works.

The Collection is best known for its modern British art, including the largest and most significant body of work by Eric Ravilious (1903–1942), and a growing collection of international contemporary art including works by Tacita Dean, Lawrence Abu Hamdan, Enid Marx, Grayson Perry and Wolfgang Tillmans. Visitors to the gallery can book onto a tour of the Collection, which take place every other Sunday.

Visitors can enjoy stunning views over the South Downs from the Towner Café, which serves a range of delicious drinks, meals and snacks, including a special children’s menu.

Opening hours: 10am–6pm on Tuesday–Sunday and Bank Holiday Mondays
