How do you get an army across the English Channel and into France when your enemy is well armed, well trained and expecting you?

Discover the personal stories behind the epic D-Day landings at this fascinating museum.

At The D-Day Story you can learn what was going through the minds of those men sent to cross the English Channel and begin the liberation of Europe.

The museum is split into three main galleries: Preparation; D-Day & the Battle of Normandy; and Legacy & Overlord Embroidery.

First you will see what went into preparing for this epic invasion, covering the period from the evacuation of Dunkirk (1940) to just before D-Day. You're introduced to the plan, as well as the men who came up with it, those who will enact it, and the vehicles that will help them do it.

Next comes D-Day & the Battle of Normandy, where you hear the stories of those involved in the campaign and find out what was going through their minds as they embarked on what was to become a turning point in WWII.

The visit finishes with Legacy & the Overlord Embroidery. See what happened as a result of the Normandy Landings, including first-hand accounts from those who were there. Finally, take in the breath taking 83-metre long Overlord Embroidery, which tells the story via 34 extraordinary hand-stitched panels, completed in 1974 by the Royal School of Needlework.

The D-Day Story also has event space for workshops and educational visits, as well as a fully stocked café and outdoor seating area.
