Swanage Railway - the picture postcard branch line to the Seaside.

Swanage Railway is one of the country’s most intensively operated heritage steam railways with trains running daily from the end of March to the end of October as well as most weekends throughout the year.

Steam trains run for six miles, weaving their way from Norden, site of the Purbeck Mineral Mining Museum, through the beautiful Purbeck countryside, past the magnificent ruins of Corfe Castle to the sandy beach at Swanage, the eastern gateway to the Jurassic Coast, a World Heritage Site.
Swanage Railway is located on the Isle of Purbeck, home to some of the country’s most well-loved landmarks including Corfe Castle, Lulworth Cove, and Durdle Door. Ideal for walkers, hikers and cyclists, The Isle of Purbeck is a peninsula connected by road rather than a separate island.
There are lots of fascinating activities and places to explore; the Tank Museum at Bovington “The World’s Best Collection of Tanks”, Monkey World “Ape Rescue Centre”, The Etches Collection “The Museum of Jurassic Marine Life” and of course the beautiful sands of Swanage and Studland are just a few of the attractions that will engage and delight.
On Purbeck’s boundary is Poole Harbour: one of the world’s largest natural harbours. Brownsea Island the largest island in the Harbour, is the birthplace of the Scouting and Guiding Movement as well as being home to the rare red squirrel and sika deer. Passenger Boats operate to and from the Island, as well as around the harbour and to Swanage.
