Birkenhead, in the north east part of Wirral, is steeped in history

Much of this is in evidence at the Birkenhead Priory and St Mary’s Tower.  Founded in 1150, the monks of this Benedictine monastery looked after travellers for nearly 400 years and supervised the first ‘Ferry’ across the Mersey.

Other points of interest in the town are Birkenhead Park and the attractive Hamilton Square containing the most Grade 1 listed buildings outside London.
