England's largest Parish Church - a masterpiece of medieval architecture.
John, bishop of York, founded a monastery in the 7th century on the site where Beverley Minster stands.
John died in 721 and his body was buried in a chapel of the Saxon church and was later moved to the present Minster. He was canonised in 1037 - Saint John of Beverley.
The present building was begun in 1190 and was completed in 1420. Throughout the Middle Ages miracles which took place at his tomb attracted pilgrims from far and wide. Today the church is still a place of pilgrimage for visitors. It also continues to be a place of prayer and worship at the heart of the community.
Accessible step free entrance. Blue badge parking spaces adjacent to the Minster. Other information here: www.beverleyminster.org.uk/visit-us-2/accessibility/
