There’s something about the slide into autumn that feels as though it’s time for a rebalance. Summer crowds have vanished, festive chaos is still a way off, but the season of mellow fruitfulness triggers the richest colours of the year and bumper mouth-watering produce.
Four heatwaves this summer? What a scorcher! But September’s the month the sea’s at its warmest, beaches are quieter and eating al fresco can still be a joy, so make the most of the last longer days and snap up a bargain.
Even a getaway of three or four nights can unleash new energy, giving time to break the routine, pack in a new adventure and enjoy some indulgence, enough time to recharge mind and body. So, if a longer break is off the cards this summer, plan a quick escape, it’s hassle-free and easy to do spontaneously. From seal-spotting in Essex to a calming retreat in West Sussex, maritime heritage in the Tees Valley to ziplining on the south coast, with this year’s sizzling temperatures, nowhere beats a break to the sea.
Summer’s in full swing so soak up the sunshine and cool off on a beautiful beach! If you want to explore somewhere new, the latest stretch to open on the King Charles III England Coast Path is from Leysdown Beach to Oak Lane, Minster-on-Sea on the Isle of Sheppey, so discover a new trail on the Kent coast. With warmer days and longer nights, June was made for travel to the coast! Recent warm weather has caused sea temperatures to soar with some areas four degrees higher than usual. So, if you haven’t done so already, grab the swimming gear and dive in. From the epic Isle of Wight Festival to the Scarborough Fringe, June sees events in full swing and our new blog highlights the breadth of choice for families, many free. Head to Seaham on the Durham Coast for its Food Festival in August, Blackpool Carnival in July and Caribbean Fun Day Out, 22 June in Plymouth.
Is there a better month than May? Longer days, seabirds swooping into coastal cliffs, pink and yellow blooms splashed across clifftops – all bookended with two bank holidays! So, if the first bank holiday passed you by, dust off the deck chairs, pack a picnic and head to the coast. Long before the summer crowds swarm, this is the perfect time to get out on the water on a leisurely boat cruise, for a quiet paddleboard or to take the first plunge of the year.
Easter holidays are upon us, we’re blessed with not one but two bank holidays in May and even the sun’s indulging us, so don’t wait for a long summer vacation when short breaks are so much more to the point! Come for clifftop carpets of yellow gorse, scenes of bobbing seabirds and seals and bags of vitamin D with the return of al fresco dining.
