Amble hugs the River Coquet estuary at the southern gateway to the Northumberland Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
Boat building began in Amble at the end of the 18th century when the 'Chevington Oak' was built with wood from nearby Chevington Woods, and has continued ever since.
The Amble docks are now home to the Amble Harbour Village with a seafood centre and lobster hatchery, along with 15 small retail units and a redeveloped harbour front with a sea-front pathway from the harbour to the marina.
From Amble you can take a boat trip to Coquet Island, an RSPB seabird sanctuary a mile off the coast.
