The Georgian grandeur of Weymouth’s Esplanade, and the golden sands and safe shallow waters of Weymouth Bay make it a perfect traditional seaside destination.
Weymouth was originally a fishing village but became a fashionable holiday resort when King George III started to visit it regularly. It is now a traditional seaside town, offering Punch and Judy, donkey rides, fairground attractions, an international sand sculptor and entertainment. Deckchairs, sun loungers and pedalos can all be hired from beach attendants and a land train runs along the seafront.
Away from the beach, much smaller winding streets offer a good shopping experience with many high street names. The harbour is different again – visitors can enjoy alfresco dining and award winning fish and chips; but it is also a busy, traditional, working harbour where the historic town bridge lifts regularly throughout the day.
On a good day Jurassic Skyline, a 360˚ observation tower is well worth a visit with its amazing views over Weymouth Bay and the Jurassic Coast.
