Redcar's award-winning, flat sandy beaches stretch for eight miles, extending both southeast and northwest.
To the northwest, the beach runs past Coatham to the South Gare breakwater at the mouth of the River Tees. In the southeast, the sandy beach is bordered by the Stray from Redcar’s Zetland Park to Marske-by-the-Sea, continuing on to Saltburn. The area near Redcar Lifeboat Station has earned a Seaside Award for its cleanliness and excellent water quality.
Redcar’s coastline is a favorite among water sports enthusiasts, with windsurfing, fishing, sailing, and diving being popular activities. The Majuba Beach area is sailable in almost any wind direction, facing North/Northeast and offering cross-shore conditions ideal for flat water blasting. South Gare, a lagoon at the mouth of the Tees, provides a safer sailing venue when the onshore swell at Redcar is too high.
