The coast is changing and is the frontline for climate change; we have all seen the images of massive floods and coastal erosion, and many of us want to play our part to protect it and support coastal communities. England’s Coast wants to raise awareness of the ever-pressing need to look after our coast – now more importantly than ever – and to invite everyone to commit to being a more thoughtful visitor by signing the Pledge.

What better way to explore the English coast than with your stomach this harvest season? With more than 300 species of fish, one of Europe’s longest coastlines, and a plethora of restaurants, seafood shacks and pubs offering the freshest sustainable and line-caught fish and seafood – as well as other quality seasonal produce found locally – there’s a multitude of ways to discover the great English coastline.

The nights may be drawing in, the trees looking barer, and the rain lashing the windows, but there’s never been a cosier time to wrap up in your fleece and waterproofs, lace up those hiking boots, and prepare for an all-weather break on the coast. Think windswept cliff walks, flasks of hot chocolate on the beach, stargazing on beautifully clear night skies, and tucking into hearty fare and warming red wines and ales by the fireside at a cosy pub.

From beach huts to fish ‘n’ chips, seafront proms to piers, the Seaside Heritage Network’s Top 20 Bucket and Spade List sums up the very best of British holiday fun. Votes have been pouring in from all around the coast to slash the list down to a top 10.

With environmental practices very much part of our daily living, conscientious travellers aspiring for a greener holiday experience are not only ditching flights and international travel but also trying to make more meaningful and sustainable choices when holidaying.

Celebrating the Year of The Coast 2023, the England’s Coast team has just been awarded the Outstanding Contribution to Tourism Award by national tourist board VisitEngland. Its new events calendar is the easiest way to find out what’s happening across the coast, discover the many sights, attractions and activities – many free of charge, that are available up and down our beautiful coastline.
